Roy Anderson, 79, Henry, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003, in a Sioux Falls hospital. Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Wilson officiating. Music will be provided by Joel and Gwen Anderson, accompanied by Dorothy Brugman.
Graveside services will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery at Butler, followed by a fellowship time at the Butler Lutheran Church. Military honors will be conducted by the Engebretson-Lien Post 156 of the American Legion of Lily. Honorary pallbearers will be his special friends, co-workers, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
Roy Anderson, the son of Andrew and Olda (Mathiason) Anderson was born Aug. 9, 1923, on a farm near Butler. He attended country school near home. He was employed as a farm laborer in the Butler/Webster area. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Casa Blanca, during World War II, being honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Marcella Schmidt Nov. 15, 1946, in Webster and the couple farmed in the Butler/Webster area. In the early 1960s they moved to Wallace, where he was employed by Hjermstad Oil Company. They moved to a farm east of Garden City in 1968, and then to a farm near Henry. He had been employed by both Schull and Gray Construction and was a self-employed carpenter for many years. He then was employed at Quadee Rubber for nine years.
He was preceded in death by one son, Darrell.
Survivors include his wife Marcella Anderson of Henry; six sons, Dennis and his wife Cheryl of Watertown, Gary and his special friend Marilyn of Garden City, Richard of Watertown, Kevin and his wife Nancy of Azle, Texas, Keith and his special friend Patty of Henry and Lynn and his special friend Marlene of Guthrie Center, Iowa; eight daughters, Sharon Schmahl and her husband Brian of Webster, Dixie Ingalls of Gillette, Wyo., Linda Mino of Henry, Bondell Boadwine and her special friend Bill and Marcine Anderson and her special friend Todd of Watertown, Diane Anderson of Aberdeen, Janelle Anderson of Watertown and Dorene Foster of Henry; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur and his wife Evelyn of Webster, Norman of Lake Andes and Maynard of Clark; and four sisters, June Moen and her husband Maynard of Bemidji, Minn., Alice Lynch and her husband Arthur of Clark, Sophie Fiebelkorn and Joan Heminger of Wenatchee, Wash.
