Congratulations
are extended to Becca Bjerke
who was chosen this past week to represent South Dakota
at the World Leadership Congress to be held on the campus of George Washington
University in Washington, DC
July 25 – August 2. Becca was selected while
attending the Hugh O’Bryan Youth Leadership seminar on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan
University in Mitchell.
The Hugh O’Bryan Youth Leadership seminar is set out to help young people make
a difference and become positive catalysts for change, in home, school,
workplace and community. While attending the seminar or also know as HOBY, Becca had to prove herself by way of interviews, projects
and a number of other ways characteristic of a community leader. A project that
Becca was involved with this week was the setting up
of an Alex’s Lemonade Stand across from the Corn Palace
in Mitchell. Alex’s Lemonade Stand is so named following the death of four year
old Alex Stone due to cancer. Alex wanted to earn money to help others with kid
cancer to fight off the disease. Proceeds from all yearly stands go to the
fund. While attending the World Leadership Congress in Washington DC Becca will join with 500 high school students from around
the world for an intensive educational program. Becca
is the daughter of Jena Johnson and Jerry Bjerke.
Brian DeJong of Watertown was a Thursday evening supper guest
at the Terry Kos home.
Maggie
Hovde of Vienna and
Spencer and Hunter Wientjes of Watertown
were Thursday evening supper guests at the Floyd and Donna Kittelson home.
Maggie was also an overnight guest.
Clay
Bastian of Brookings arrived Friday to the Ron Bastian home. On Saturday, Clay
Bastian, Eric Bastian, Paul Johnson, Rod Cotton and Ron Bastian participated in
a golf tournament in Milbank raising funds for the Milbank football team. Later
they were joined by Aimee and Kayla
Bastian. Everyone stayed overnight at the Matt Bastian home in Milbank except
Ron Bastian and Rod Cotton who returned to Henry.
Carol
O’Neill and Katie O’ Neill attended a bridal shower for Marie Goodroad at the Lake
Kampeska
home of Karrie O’Neill on Saturday afternoon. Marie will become the bride of
Justin O’Neill in July.
Tondi Schoepp and boys of Chanhassen, MN
arrived at the Calvin Schoepp home on Wednesday. Gary
Schoepp joined the family on Saturday. Tondi and boys returned to their Chanhassen home on Sunday
and Gary went on to Fargo.
Fain
and Roxanne Geiger were Tuesday afternoon visitors at the Chad and Lisa Purintun home.
Mike
and Shauna Lane
hosted an early Father’s Day supper on Saturday evening at their home. Guests
were Troy and Sandy Van Sickle, Bailey, Taylor and Nickolas all of Watertown and Gordy and Loydeen
Van Sickle.
Joan
Boehnke and friend, Jan Johnson, viewed the “Bodies
Human” exhibit in downtown Watertown
Thursday and enjoyed supper out later.
Saturday
evening Myron and Diane Eidsness hosted supper in
honor of Callie Eidsness’ 80th birthday
with several relatives attending. A special guest at the supper was the Eidsness’ son, Joe from St. Louis Missouri.
John
Boehnke traveled to Wisconsin this weekend to be an usher in one
of his roommate’s wedding. He returned
home Sunday.
Calvin
and Lois Schoepp attended the Regional Rodeo at Derby
Downs on Saturday and Sunday. Their granddaughter, Casey Miller of Iroquois was
a participant in the rodeo. On Saturday evening the Schoepps
were supper guests at the Diane York home in Watertown.
Virgil
Bastian was a Sunday evening supper guest at the Ronnie and Peggy Bastian home.
Toni
Goodall, Hayley and Travis were Tuesday evening
visitors at the Fain and Roxanne Geiger home.
Harlan
and Mary Bruns of Bruce joined Wendell and Alice Bruns for supper at their home on Sunday evening.
Spencer
Wientjes of Watertown
was a Friday evening overnight guest at the Floyd and Donna Kittelson home.
Father’s
Day dinner guests at the Terry and Judy Kos home were Kathy DeJong,
of Watertown, Bret and Karen Henricks,
John and Liz of rural Waverly.
Fain
and Roxanne Geiger celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary with
supper out in Watertown
on Thursday evening.
Matt
Bastian was a last Monday overnight guest at the Ron Bastian home.
Barb
and Jenna Hartley spent Saturday overnight in Lakota, ND after attending the
wedding of Kyle Stern and Denae Bina,
which was Saturday afternoon in Edmore,
ND.
Saturday
evening, Arlen, Joan and Stephanie Boehnke enjoyed an early Fathers’ Day/anniversary supper
out in Henry.
Gordon
and Loydeen Van Sickle visited with Harold and
Jeanette Hansen of Watertown and Milan and Linda Hansen of Ohio at the Hansen farm home on Sunday
evening. Additional callers were Terry
and Diane Boyd and Monty and Marcia Montgomery.
Rick,
Vickie and Kayla Burchatz
of Watertown
and Floyd and Donna Kittelson attended the 20th annual All-Star
Basketball games in Yankton on Saturday evening. Jordon Burchatz
was a member of the boy’s team. The South Dakota
boys and girls teams defeated the Nebraska
teams.
On
Tuesday evening friends and relatives gathered at the Dorothy Paulsen home for
supper and to help Dorothy celebrate her 80th birthday.
Emily Bastian arrived Wednesday to the
home of her parents, Ron and Peggy Bastian and returned to Mitchell on Friday.
Alyssa
Rhody and Tierra and also Tierra’s friends of rural
Clear Lake, Fain and Roxanne Geiger and Kelby Goodall enjoyed breakfast together Friday morning in
Watertown.
Celebrating
Father’s Day with supper on Sunday evening at the Mike O’Neill home in Clark
were Dan and Karrie O’Neill, Kylie Steen and girls all of Watertown, Lisa Werdel of Sioux Falls, Jerry and Carol O’Neill and Mark and
Renee O’Neill and family of Henry.
Don
and Rose McElroy attended the
McElroy reunion in Cedar, MN this weekend.
The reunion was held at the Bob and Martha Muller home in Cedar. The McElroys celebrated Bob and Martha’s 50th
wedding anniversary.

from Thursday until Monday at the Ron Bastian home.
Floyd
and Donna Kittelson were Sunday Father’s Day dinner guests at the Tom and Kathy
Wookey home in Clark. Joy and Gayle Wookey
were additional guests.

called on Fain and Roxanne Geiger Friday afternoon.
Loydeen Van Sickle spent Tuesday with Helen Van Sickle and Sandy Van
Sickle of Watertown
and helped them celebrate their birthdays.

Father’s Day supper at their home on Sunday evening. Enjoying the B-B-Q were Gary and Betsy Kolden and family of Vienna, Aaron and Connie Hemmingson and family, Milo and Janice Kolden
all of Clark and Brad and Lorie Terhark of Willow
Lake. Taylor and Cory Jans were also home for the
supper.
Helen
Van Sickle, Linda Page and Britney Page all of Watertown were Sunday afternoon guests for a
cookout at the Monty Montgomery home to celebrate Father’s Day.
Arlene
Sharp remains a patient at Sanford Hospital in Sioux
Falls.
