Henry News – November 19, 2007

 

 

Mark Oachs, Mankato, MN, Paul Caldwell and Tom Kos of Omaha, NE arrived Friday morning and spent the weekend at the Terry Kos home and enjoyed a weekend of pheasant hunting. John Henricks, rural Waverly joined them on Saturday and remained for supper.  Additional guests on Friday evening were Brian and Kathy DeJong and family of Watertown and on Saturday afternoon Karen and Liz Henricks, rural Waverly were callers.

 

Alice Bruns was host on Tuesday evening to the United Methodist Women. The group made plans for the annual fruit baskets to be distributed at Christmas time. Judy Kos will host the December 12th meeting of the group.

 

Donna Kittelson spent Thursday through Saturday at the Dave McNeil home in Warner.

 

Hayley and Travis Goodall spent last Wednesday afternoon with their grandparents Fain and Roxanne Geiger.

 

Joan Boehnke enjoyed the SDSU/Montana Men’s BB game in Brookings Saturday evening. She was a guest of John Boehnke.

 

Patti McElroy and Brian Nicholson of Pinckney, Michigan are spending the week at the Don and Rose McElroy home.

 

Fain and Roxanne Geiger went to Miller last Friday to visit with Roxanne’s parents, Louis and Mardella Gortmaker. In honor of Mardella’s birthday the family enjoyed supper out. On their return home on Saturday Fain and Roxanne stopped in Hitchcock to visit with Roxanne’s cousin, Phillip and Jodi Oechsle.

 

Matt Bastian of Milbank spent the weekend at the Ron Bastian home.

 

Anita Abraham, rural Hazel, Phyllis Kittelson, Watertown and Donna Kittelson enjoyed lunch out on Wednesday.

 

Hudson Engels, four month old son of Troy and SeLena Engels underwent heart surgery this past week  at Children’s Northwestern-Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis. Little Hudson did so well in his recovery he was able to return to his Watertown home on Monday.

 

 

Barb Hartley spent from Thursday until Saturday in Sioux Falls attending the State Volleyball Tournament.  Her niece, Kelli Wiedebush, daughter of Randy and Carol Wiedebush, was a member of the Warner team that won the State B championship.

 

Joan Boehnke attended the November meeting of the Courier Classics 4-H Club Sunday evening.

 

Nicky and Trinity Watson, Bonita Sharp and Nicole and Karli Sharp attended The Holiday Festival of Trees and the appearance of Santa at the Event Center on Saturday afternoon. Later they attended the Watertown Town Player’s production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever at the Watertown Community Theater.

 

A week ago Saturday, Ken and Sally Luvaas traveled to Lennox to help Mark Luvaas with a remodeling project. Russell Luvaas joined Ken and Mark also. Sally enjoyed spending the day with her granddaughters, Madelynn and Megan.

 

Calvin and Lois Schoepp attended the Farmers/Businessmen’s Banquet in Watertown on Thursday evening.

 

Last Sunday afternoon, Kellie and Anthony Purintun enjoyed an afternoon of hunting with Fain and Roxanne Geiger.

 

April and Brynn Flemming of Aurora spent the weekend at the Tim and Lori Page home. Adam Page of Brookings joined the family for Sunday dinner.

 

Dave McNeill of Warner was a Friday overnight guest at the Floyd and Donna Kittelson home.

 

Joan Boehnke was among those who brought supper into Todd and Brenda Jenkins’s home in Clark Tuesday evening.

 

Saturday evening Ken and Sally Luvaas and Russell Luvaas along with his fiancé, Cate Baumberger, joined Cate’s parents for supper at the Royal Fork in Sioux Falls. They returned home later in the evening.

 

Ron and Peggy Bastian attended the Dakota Wesleyan basketball game at Mitchell on Saturday evening. Emily Bastian is a member of the Junior Varsity team.

 

Sunday morning, John Luvaas phoned from Milwaukee, WI and reported that their ground was covered with snow.

 

Lynn and Barb Hartley and Adam and Laci Hartley and family joined other family members for an early Thanksgiving at the home of Anna Harley, rural Garden City.

 

 On Saturday, Ken and Sally Luvaas joined the Arbogast family in helping Sally’s grandmother, Irene Arbogast celebrate her 104th birthday with cake and ice cream.  The event was hosted by Irene’s son, Darrell Arbogast and his wife, Carol, and daughter and son-in-law, Cleta and Jim Lentsch of Salem.  Several friends and grandchildren enjoyed the time with Irene.  Irene and his husband lived in the Elrod area during the thirties. Irene and her husband, Mike also owned and operated the Sunnyside Supper Club at Lake Kampeska along with the Phillips brothers for a few years.  Later in the evening Ken and Sally joined Jim and Cleta Lentsch and daughter, Jody and husband, Mike for supper in Watertown.

 

Hayley and Travis Goodall spent Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon with Roxanne Geiger.

 

Danny and Bonita Sharp joined Don Keyes of Blaine, MN, Bob Gergen and Betty Keyes of Clark for supper in Clark Sunday evening.

 

Lois Schoepp visited Harold Nipe and Lola Alexander at Wookey’s Assistant Living in Clark on Sunday.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sandal of Phillip, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Nelson, Des Moines, IA, Mr. and Mrs. Don Roe, Hazel, Phyllis Kittelson, Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Kittelson, Floyd and Donna Kittelson and Albert Kittelson enjoyed supper out in Watertown on Saturday evening.  Later several of the group had pie and coffee at the home of Phyllis Kittelson.

 

Arlen Swedeen returned to his home on Saturday.  Wesley and Betty Holida and LeRay and Andrea Swedeen are among those that have visited with him since his return.

 

Gordy and Loydeen Van Sickle returned home on Saturday evening after spending a week at Branson, MO. They also visited the Precious Moments Chapel and Park at Carthage, MO.

 

Jerry Raasch of Castlewood was a Sunday visitor at the Joe and Elsie Young home.

 

Bryan Varilek visited Lois Stern, rural Clark on Sunday.  Lois has recently undergone surgery.

 

The Henry Fire Department was called to a grass fire early Tuesday morning southwest of Henry.
