SUBJECT:  I’m coming home!

Well this is my last group email I’ll be sending out from Iraq. By the sounds of it I’m going to be in Kuwait by the end of the month, back in the states by the end of the first week of February and in Watertown around Valentines Day.

The last few weeks have been very hectic, but everything except for a few last minute items have been cleaned, packed, inspected, and sealed in big metal containers, which won’t be opened until there back in the states.

The last week and a half my roommate and I have been playing a lot of basketball.  They have a few court that are pretty nice here at Tallil. Two guys from a different battalion asked me if I would be on their team for a “3 on 3” tournament which was on the 22nd and 23rd  …. unfortunately we got rained out. The rain lasted almost 24 hours which ended up causing a few floods in the camp. One of the tent cities had to be evacuated it was so bad; they ended up staying in the indoor basketball court building.

The South Dakota State Command Sergeant Major made a visit to camp Tallil; while he was here he stopped in to see me and gave me a coin (see the pics in “Ben’s Photos album”). He said he wanted me to have it for the great attitude I have and for the contact that I keep with all of you through these emails. One more little bit of news I’m reenlisting for another 6 years, later this afternoon I will be taking my oath. I really don’t have any big plans until school starts; I’m going to do as much extra guard work as I can get, that way I can go without finding a new job until school starts in the fall. Other than that and finding an apartment I’m going to be spending a lot of time with family and friends.  The end of March my parents, my sister and I plan on visiting family in Jamestown, ND.

I want to thank you all for all the support you have shown me, if it wasn’t for the letters, emails and care packages I have received over the year it would have been a lot tougher to get through my time here. You don’t have to stop emailing me just because this my last “group” email.  I would like to keeping in touch with all of you and email is easiest so don’t be a stranger, I will definitely reply to any email I receive.

But I’m off, If I can I will try to get one more email out but I highly doubt I will so see you all soon and like I said don’t be a stranger, drop me a line.
